tsunami warning for chile and other SA countries..does anyone know if they have an early warning system there? No word yet on how big it is expected to be, but earthquake was shallow so there will be a tsunami.

TO BE FAIR AND BALANCED: STILL DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT... but obviously if you live in the effected areas, listen to your local emergency stuff :)

A Tsunami Advisory is issued by the WCATWC whenever the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach, Hawaii has issued a warning for other regions in the Pacific Basin, and NO tsunami watch or warning is in effect for the states and provinces listed above. It is unlikely that these regions will upgraded to a tsunami warning or watch. Please refer to the PTWC message for further information about the warning.

Based on the earthquake location, magnitude and historic tsunami records, a damaging tsunami IS NOT expected along the California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska coasts. Some of these areas may experience non-damaging sea level changes.

At 4:41 PM Pacific Daylight Time on August 15, an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 7.9 occurred near the coast of Peru.

Messages will continue to be issued hourly by the WCATWC until the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issues a cancellation or final message. See the WCATWC web site for basic tsunami information, safety rules, and a tsunami travel time map and table.
