A question about tipping in restaurants
Are we expected to tip ON TOP of the 12.5% service charge included in the bill? I always feel like a cheap skate if I don't tip on top of the forced tip the restaurant obliged us to pay.

Re: A question about tipping in restaurants
It sounds like they are setting a "minimum" for you to add to depending upon the quality of service, since the normal amount is 15%.

The last time I ate out 6 Months ago, I took a friend out to Flattire Burger in Edmond; the waitress was cheerful despite being very busy. She made suggestions and gave us refills and was a delight. The food was excellent.

We gave her a double tip.

A few weeks before, another friend and I went to "The Garage", also in Edmond. The food was slow, not that good, and service was non-existent.

No tip for that waiter.

We don't have that service charge in the states. Most people from Europe don't tip because they think it's included.

The typical restaurant experience is like going to the zoo.

What? How am I taking it out on people trying to make a living? I pay my 12.5% inclusive tip even though i don't have to. Sometimes i leave a little extra on top.

Re: A question about tipping in restaurants
UK is an expensive country, you could eat out every day and tip well all the time if you made the smart move and got the fuck out while you can.

If you are dependent on physically being in the UK then just avoid restaurants.
