Re: INSIDERS AGREE: BANK RUNS IMMINENTQuote

Paper money, backed by nothing except people's willingness to accept it, is what the US runs on. Since the system in the US was greatly abused and stretched by deficit financing to purchase products such as oil and imports, topped off by the derivatives debacle, there is very little dollar credibility left.

Draw your own conclusions as to what will happen. There is no sure outcome, but if the fed can pull this rabbit turned snowball rolling downhill out of the hat, I'll be the most amazed person on the planet.

What do you do with stockpiled baking soda?

It's very versatile (along with vinegar). When you can't just "run to the store" you'll want plenty of stuff that can do multiple things for your, as the poster above gave examples of. Here are more:

Sixty Uses Of Baking Soda

---------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------

Bicarbonate of soda or baking soda has many different uses in the household. Although much more expensive products have been developed over the years to do the same jobs, baking soda can work for you just as well, if not better. Use it in the following ways:
1. To make your own baking powder, stir and sift together 2 parts of Cream of Tartar to 1 part baking soda and 1 part cornstarch.

2. Be sure to keep an extra box of baking soda by your stove in case of grease or electrical fire. Scatter the powder by the handful to safely put it out.

3. Keep a container of baking soda in your garage as well as in your car to put out a fire. It won't damage anything it touches.

4. Baking soda will also put out fires in clothing, fuel, wood, upholstery and rugs.

5. Clean vegetables and fruit with baking soda. Sprinkle in water, soak and rise the produce.

6. Wash garbage cans with baking soda.

7. Soak and wash diapers with baking soda.

8. Oil and grease - stained clothing washes out better with soda added to the washing water.

9. Clean your fridge and freezer with dry soda sprinkled on a damp cloth. rinse with clear water.

10. Deodorize your fridge and freezer by putting in an open container of baking soda to absorb odors. Stir and turn over the soda from time to time. Replace every 2 months.

11. Soda absorbs kitty litter odors. Cover the bottom of the kitty box with 1 part soda; then add a layer of 3 parts kitty litter on top.

12. Always add 1/2 cup soda to your washing machine load.

13. Clean combs and brushes in a soda solution.

14. Wash food and drink containers with soda and water.

15. Wash marble-topped furniture with a solution of 3 tablespoons of soda in 1 quart of warm water. Let stand awhile, then rinse.

16. Clean formica counter tops with baking soda on a damp sponge.

17. Wash out thermos bottles and cooling containers with soda and water to get rid of stale smells.

18. To remove stubborn stains from marble, formica or plastic surfaces, scour with a paste of soda and water.

19. Wash glass or stainless steel coffee pots (but not aluminum) in a soda solution ( 3 tbsp. soda to 1 quart water).

20. Run you coffee maker through its cycle with a soda solution. Rinse.

21. Give baby bottles a good cleaning with soda and hot water.

22. Sprinkle soda on barbecue grills, let soak, then rinse off.

23. Sprinkle soda on greasy garage floor. Let stand, scrub and rinse.

24. Polish silverware with dry soda on a damp cloth. Rub, rinse and dry.

25. For silver pieces without raised patterns or cemented-on handles: place the silver on aluminum foil in an enamel pot. Add boiling water and 4 tbsp. baking soda. Let stand, rinse and dry.

26. Reduce odor build-up in your dishwasher by sprinkling some soda on the bottom.

27. Run your dishwasher through its cycle with soda in it instead of soap to give it a good cleaning.

28. To remove burned-on food from a pan: let the pan soak in soda and water for 10 minutes before washing. Or scrub the pot with dry soda and a moist scouring pad.

29. For a badly-burned pan with a thick layer of burned-on food: pour a thick layer of soda directly onto the bottom of the pan, then sprinkle on just enough water so as to moisten the soda. Leave the pot overnight, then scrub it clean next day.

30. Rub stainless steel and chrome with a moist cloth and dry baking soda to shine it up. Rinse and dry. On stainless steel, scrub in the direction of the grain.

31. Clean plastic, porcelain and glass with dry soda on a damp cloth. Rinse and dry.

32. Remove that bad smell from ashtrays with soda and water.

33. Sprinkle a bit of dry soda in your ashtrays to prevent smoldering and reduce odor.

34. Clean your bathroom with dry soda on a moist sponge - sink, tub, tiles, shower stall, etc.

35. Keep your drains clean and free-flowing by putting 4 tablespoons of soda in them each week. Flush the soda down with hot water.

36. Soak your shower curtains in water and soda to clean them.

37. To remove strong odors from your hands, wet your hands and rub them hard with soda, then rinse.

38. Sprinkle baking soda on your wet toothbrush and brush your teeth and dentures with it.

39. Sprinkle soda in tennis shoes, socks, boots and slippers to eliminate odor.

40. Add 1/2 cups or more of baking soda to your bath water to soften your skin.

41. Putting 2 tbsp. of baking soda in your baby's bath water will help relieve diaper rash irritations.

42. Apply soda directly to insect bites, rashes and poison ivy to relieve discomfort. Make a paste with water.

43. Take a soda bath to relieve general skin irritations such as measles and chicken pox.

44. Take 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water to relieve acid indigestion or heartburn.

45. Gargle with 1/2 tsp. baking soda in 1/2 glass of water. Freshens and cleans your mouth.

46. Used as a mouthwash, baking soda will also relieve canker sore pain.

47. To relieve sunburn: use a paste of baking soda and water.

48. Bug bites: use a poultice of baking soda and vinegar.

49. Bee sting: use a poultice of baking soda and water.

50. Windburns: moisten some baking soda and apply directly.

51. Making Play Clay with baking soda: combine 1 1/4 cups water, 2 cups soda, 1 cup cornstarch.

52. Use soda as an underarm deodorant.

53. If your baby spits up on his shirt after feeding, moisten a cloth, dip it in baking soda and dab at the dribbled shirt. The odor will go away.

54. When scalding a chicken, add 1 tsp. of soda to the boiling water. The feathers will come off easier and flesh will be clean and white.

55. Repel rain from windshield. Put gobs of baking soda on a dampened cloth and wipe windows inside and out.

56. Add to water to soak dried beans to make them more digestible.

57. Add to water to remove the "gamey" taste from wild game.

58. Use to sweeten sour dishcloths.

59. Use dry with a small brush to rub canvas handbags clean.

60. Use to remove melted plastic bread wrapper from toaster. Dampen cloth and make a mild abrasive with baking soda.

And what if they begin playing games with it, such as issuing public debt securities in lieu of real checks?

Kinda felt like I had to lie to the teller LOL.....how ignorant is that LOL?

I went on the on-line bank server today and in big red letters was a warning that debit card purchases would now be limited to under $1000.00 per day. (Not that I would ever have to worry about that particular criteria), but it made me nervous so I went up and pulled it all."

The signs are all there. Things ARE changing and folks are gonna have to be as self-sufficient as possible.

Trusting that the government is gonna do the right thing is like trusting that a scorpion won't sting...

It just ain't that way (at least...not right now, lol!).

Okay, so I just went out and raided my kids' savings accounts for CASH. (Since they have more liquidity than hubby and I, haha) I will repay them if the economy rights itself and we're not in a disaster scenario by next month.

but I have a question: I can see how cash can be useful in an emergency (e.g. Hurricane Katrina), or at the grocery store, but if the system eliminates other forms of transaction entirely, how are we going to pay our mortgages? One mortgage payment would basically wipe out my cash reserves.

So isn't the whole cash thing a moot point?

Re: INSIDERS AGREE: BANK RUNS IMMINENTQuote

The system has failed. Not because the system is inherently flawed, which it is, but, because of the insatiable greed of the do-nothings.

There has been a constant pressure over the last few years to goad people into keeping and maintaining a bank account. The banking industry is a confidence game at best. At the very worst, it is a straight up hijacking of your hard earned cash.

All these people with such prestigious job titles such as, CEO, CFO, President, VP, Broker, Trader, or even analyst, are making free money. They get paid from selling you an idea that they can make YOU rich. You would be almost as well off if you forked over your life savings to a gambler at a casino and kindly ask if you can get your money back. That's all that a bank really does. It stores your money (allegedly) and then uses your money to realize profits that you are just going to see just the bare minimum percentage of.

I think that Americans should be alot more outraged by this whole scenario. It would be like borrowing money to a friend, watching them hit bigtime, and then barely getting your money back. That is the truth. Putting your money in the bank means you are giving that bank an unsecured loan. (regardless what FDIC says)

By all rights, there should never even be this kind of turmoil or crisis. The value of things should really never go south unless the values were artificially inflated. Theoretically, as more goods are produced, the money supply is supposed grow at the same rate. Therefore, providing an equal sense of liquidity.

I can understand the 'credit crunch'. The mortgage 'bubble'? It is a purely contrived situation aimed at bailing out ignorant investors and brokers. They gambled too high and now they want to suck hind titties. Since when has land and property been so worthless that a bank that made many loans now needs government help? They own the property on default right? Or did they trade that value and property for a fast buck? Selling out America the whole way.

gw, For all his misgivings, he has had some very intelligent help. Assuming he wants to railroad this country straight into the ground.

There is no such thing as a self made billionaire. The reason why? Because one man is only one man. A man that needs to get over on his people in order to increase his bottom line. One person is not capable of doing it all alone.

The reason why we are all doomed is because the majority will never consider the lies and bullshit we all deal with on a normal basis.

In my opinion ppl on the news know something. They don't want to public to know so they are making the market look appealing. I gave up watching CNBC this week after Monday, but I think some sort of brainwashing scam is in place right now. (I know brainwashing the masses, LOL) They don't want to public to PANIC!!! But why are some large banks warning ppl that the U.S. banking system is going to collapse very soon? I have no clue how long this is going to take. Maybe it's not even as bad as we think it is??? (hopeful thinking here). All I know is that I can't make any more LARGE grocery stock up piles anymore. I have what I have and that is it.

Media is paid for by advertisers. Many of those advertisers are the same companies and financial institutions they are supposedly reporting on. It is doubtful that we could find them to be honest. Also, when media reports the real truth, companies and financial institutions oftentimes become quite litigious. Media has chosen the safe path and has merely become a perpetrator of 24 hour advertising disguised as objective opinion and educational programming.

U.S. banks ask SEC to expand stock trade protection
Sat Jul 19, 2008 12:46pm EDT
By John Poirier

WASHINGTON, July 19 (Reuters) - An emergency move by U.S. securities regulators this week aimed at curbing manipulative short-selling in some major financial firms should be expanded to all publicly traded banks, or it could erode confidence in the banking industry, a top trade group said.

A letter from the American Bankers Association to the Securities and Exchange Commission this week stressed that banks could be vulnerable as they are suffering from the financial turmoil stemming from the downturn in the U.S housing market.

"The emergency order could further exacerbate a loss of confidence in the safety and soundness of this country's banking industry," ABA President Ed Yingling said in a Thursday letter to the SEC.

"As the commission is aware, it would be an understatement to say that short interest in financial services companies has greatly increased over the year," Yingling said.

On Friday the SEC, the U.S. markets watchdog, amended its action from earlier in the week but limited the protection to 19 firms including U.S. housing finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac whose shares plunged on concerns they were undercapitalized.

The rule also applies to the stocks of 17 Wall Street firms, primary dealers that have access to the Federal Reserve's discount window, such as Citigroup Inc (C.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Lehman Brothers (LEH.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz).

Short selling is a legitimate strategy where the investor arranges to borrow shares they consider overvalued and sell them in hopes of profiting when the price drops. A naked short occurs when an investor sells stock that has not yet been borrowed.

Wall Street, which was thrown off guard when the SEC announced the emergency rule on Tuesday, and U.S. stock exchanges applauded the rule modifications and guidance. But the ABA wanted the SEC protection expanded to all banks and their holding companies that are publicly traded.

The emergency rule is the latest effort by the SEC to crack down on market manipulation. The agency has already announced plans to rein in those that are spreading false information amid complaints from companies and lawmakers that short sellers are driving down financial stocks.

The ABA said the majority of the 8,500 banks in the United States are well-capitalized and capital levels are not affected by their stock prices. However, it said people with bank accounts might equate stock drops with the safety of their deposits.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp insures up to $100,000 per deposit and up to $250,000 per retirement account at insured banks.

The bank industry group said naked short selling has contributed to the increase in shorting of bank stocks
